Throwback Tunes is a special segment on BoomPopMedia where we will take a look at a classic song of some kind. Classic is defined loosely and is pretty much just whatever we feel like, but we’ll try to take a look at one of these songs on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
I know it’s been a while since I’ve posted any Throwback Tunes - the last one was Richard Marx’s song Right Here Waiting, which I posted for no goddamn reason. Today, however, I actually have a good reason for posting the song I did. It’s fantasy football season and it’s time to get pumped up. What better song than Sirius by The Alan Parsons Project?
BPM Superfans may remember one of our early writers, Lance, who wrote such gems as this article about why Battlefield Earth is a forgotten classic, this one about how progressives can find hope in The Newsroom and this inexplicable digression on the physical book. Well, as it so happens, I was playing him this week in Fantasy Football and I posted this song on his wall to get him pumped up.
It didn’t work. He lost and he lost badly. But on the positive side of things, the always wonderful Esteban Diaz was on hand to help me taunt him with a terrific cartoon.
His team is named “The Neckbeards” because I forget to shave a lot and Lance is a big meany who makes fun of me about it. My team is named “The Country Bears” out of respect for Lance, because he loves the film The Country Bears. See? I’m just trying to be friendly and he’s being a dick about everything.
But he lost. And he lost badly. And now it’s immortalized as a cartoon. And at this point, this has absolutely nothing to do with Throwback Tunes, so it’s probably time for me to move on. Adios, Baby Birds!
